PEORIA, Ill. – A man has been found guilty for his role in a shooting at a Peoria gas station nearly two years ago.
A Peoria County jury on Thursday found 26-year-old Patrick Meyer guilty of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The shooting occurred on the evening of December 14th, 2022 at the Shell station on Knoxville and Nebraska.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says Meyer approached the victim, who was taking his daughter to work, at around 9:30 P.M. That’s when Meyer forced the victim out of his vehicle, and shot him six times. Meyer then took the vehicle, and left the victim for dead.
The victim survived but received numerous surgeries and still has a bullet lodged in his hip.
The state’s attorney’s office says Meyer was developed as a suspect using multiple surveillance videos and witness statements, with one leading detectives to the gun used in the shooting. Meyer had reportedly hid the weapon behind a shed in a friend’s yard, with forensic testing confirming the shell casings recovered came from the weapon used in the shooting.
Meyer admitted to police to owning the gun used in the shooting and ditching the vehicle after it broke down, but claimed he was under the influence of drugs and did not remember the incident.
The state’s attorney’s office says Meyer is scheduled to be sentenced November 25th…and could face life in prison.
