PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters responded to reports of a residential fire Friday night in the 2100 block of N. Machin Avenue.
Fire Battalion Chief Tom Stimeling says around 8:20 p.m., crews found heavy smoke and fire in the back of the home. During a search for possible victims, firefighters rescued three dogs and an iguana. Two cats died in the fire.
An investigator was called to the scene, along with Arson Detection Canine “Rock” to search for accelerants. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
There were no injuries to any residents of the home. One firefighter suffered burns and was taken to OSF Saint Francis, then released.
Damage is estimated at $105,000.
