Goodrich is likely a film most casual movie-watchers have never heard of, but is one that I would recommend to almost anybody.
The film focuses on a once successful art gallery owner, Michael Keaton’s Andy Goodrich, and his pregnant daughter Grace (aka Mila Kunis), as they both embark on new chapters of their lives.
Keaton and Kunis bring such heart and humor to their roles.
The movie starts with Goodrich finding out his wife, who’s substantially younger than he is ($$$), is addicted to prescription pills…is going to rehab for 90 days…and is planning on leaving him.
With twins in middle school, being a 60-year-old art dealer, and completely blindsided by the news…Goodrich turns to his daughter Grace for help…brining old issues from her childhood back to the surface as they scramble to keep things afloat.
Ultimately this is a movie about personal growth, the love between a father and daughter, and finding the humor in life.
In my opinion, 10-15 years ago, this would be a must-see with a spouse or family member on a Friday night.
It gives off vibes of early 2000’s movies like “The Devil Wears Prada” x “Friends with Benefits” x “Meet the Parents”.
Movies like Goodrich tend to fly under the radar, due to the lack of a marketing campaign vs what we see from the major studios (Disney, Warner Bros, etc) — but in my opinion are even more deserving of your money at the theater.
If we don’t support these quality, low-budget films…soon they will all be forced to a direct to stream release…which is not good for movie theaters and movie-goers!
Go watch this film while you can…IN THEATERS!
