The Peoria County Board approved an ordinance on Wednesday night that levies an additional local tax on recreational cannabis sales.
The ordinance imposes a 3-percent tax in any municipality in Peoria County, and a 3.75-percent sales tax on county property.
The Peoria County Board voted 13-1 to approve the tax.
Peoria County’s zoning ordinances will be revised in December ahead of Illinois’ legalization of recreational marijuana on January 1, 2020.
