PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria teenager has pleaded guilty to charges involving weapons and threatening a public official.
19-year-old Taiwand Hughes pleaded guilty Monday to one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and one count of Threatening a Public Official.
He was sentenced to 12 years in prison on the firearm charge, and five years for the threatening a public official charge, both to be served at the same time.
Prosecutors dropped an Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon charge as part of the plea.
Hughes was arrested on January 26th in connection to multiple shooting incidents in January and last year.
He also reportedly threatened the judge overseeing his weapons case on a recorded jailhouse phone call.
