PEORIA HEIGHTS Ill. – Peoria Heights city officials met with the public Tuesday night, to discuss possible changes to the city’s active transportation plan.
The goal of the transportation plan is to make it easier on residents, without a vehicle, to get around Peoria Heights through the use of completed and connected streets, sidewalks, and crosswalks.
Peoria Heights Community Development Director, Wayne Aldrich, says the plan also promotes healthier lifestyles.
“The other thing is, it’s alternate forms of transportation that promote health… they promote the environment because you are not polluting as much. So, saving costs for people, if they are not, you and I can say hey, can’t I walk to work or ride my bike. It’s just a good alternative,” Wayne Aldrich said.
Aldrich adds, “this plan, is for all residents.”
“The people that use it are any people that are looking for recreation, looking to commute to work, going shopping, businesses, things like that. So really it’s for everyone,” Aldrich said.
The plan should be completed by the end of the year.
