PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called to a vacant home in the 1800 block of S. Livingston Street Thursday afternoon on reports of a fire.
Fire Battalion Chief Mike Ralston says when they arrived around 3:20 p.m., crews found smoke coming from the story-and-a-half home. Heavy fire was found in the stairwell and on the second floor.
An additional search of the home found fire in the basement as well. No victims were located. The fire was out in about 20 minutes.
A fire investigator determined the fire was caused by arson. The structure was deemed unsafe, requiring an emergency demolition.
Total damage was estimated at $75,000.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
