PEORIA Ill. – With just four days until Election Day 2024, Mail-In and Early Voting options have made a strong showing in both Peoria and Tazewell Counties.
County Clerk John Ackerman says over 10,000 Mail-In ballots have been turned in and processed already in Tazewell County.
“With in-person Early Voting, we’re sitting at 12,561. So, approximately 22,561 individuals have already voted leading into this election,” Ackerman says.
Ackerman estimates around 76,000 votes will be cast in Tazewell County overall, with about 30-percent of that vote already in.
While Peoria County Election Commission Executive Director, Elizabeth Gannon, says more than 34-thousand early votes have been processed — which equates to around 30-percent of the county’s vote.
“When you say early voters, this includes early voting in-person and by mail. These trends to vote prior to election day are just continuing to grow. I think that, with permanent vote that was implemented in Illinois, you will just continue to see those trends rise over the years,” Gannon said.
Even if you haven’t registered to vote yet, you can still make your vote count.
“Illinois has same-day registration, so they can come to any polling location or our office. I recommend coming to our office, just to be sure you’re at the correct polling location…you don’t want to go to one and not be able to cast your vote,” Ackerman says.
The Tazewell County Clerk’s Office will be open for Early Voting until 7 p.m. Friday, and then Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
Early Voting will continue on Monday from 8 a.m.-7 p.m., and the polls will be open on Tuesday, Election Day, from 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
As for Peoria County, Gannon says the Peoria election commission office is open Saturday from 9am to 5pm — and Sunday from 10am to 4pm, for anyone wanting to vote early in-person.
The Peoria Public Library will also be open for voting this weekend.
Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact their county’s election commission.
