PEORIA Ill. – Four local Illinois State representatives will be staying in their current roles.
Dave Koehler (D) will continue his role in the 46th State Senate of Illinois, after beating republican challenger, Sally Owens, by around 10,000 votes.
Koehler received well-more than 48,000 votes — which equates to around 54% of the possible vote.
While at a watch party in Peoria, Tuesday night, he told us, he’s happy so many people took to the polls, to vote.
“I’m so glad that people have gotten excited about democracy again, that’s a good sign for us. We will see how it turns out on a national level, but locally, I feel very good about it,” Dave Koehler said.
William B. Houter (R) reclaimed the 87th district of Illinois – capturing more than 76% of the total vote according to our calculations.
He beat Democrat challenger, David Gill, by more than 25,000 votes.
Dennis Tipsword (R) will continue to represent the people of the 105th District of Illinois. He took just over 68% of the vote – against challenger Morgan Phillips (D).
We caught up with Tipsword at the Tazewell County GOP watch party — he told us, he’s looking forward to continue his work in Springfield.
“You kind of look back, and take it all in, and realize no matter how hard it might have been that day — it’s just a wonderful pleasure to represent the constituents of the district,” Tipsword said.
Sharon Chung will also keep her seat, as the representative of the 91st District of Illinois.
It was a close race for the 91st district – with Chung getting 53% of the vote – in comparison to 47% for her Republican challenger, Desi Anderson.
