PEORIA, Ill. – Two former business owners accused of stealing thousands of dollars from their clients have been charged with home repair fraud.
The charges against Thomas Murray, who owned Murray Custom Cabinetry, and Nicholas Hamby, who owned NJH Hardscapes, were handed down Wednesday by a Peoria County Grand Jury.
Murray faces two charges of home repair fraud and a single charge for deceptive practices…all Class 4 felonies.
Hamby faces one charge of aggravated home repair fraud for allegedly defrauding an elderly man.
Murray allegedly signed contracts to deliver cabinets, but in many cases never did the work.
Hamby is accused of taking deposits from customers for outdoor home improvement projects, without completing the work.
Hamby was previously charged with similar crimes in Woodford and Tazewell Counties, where he pleaded guilty.
