PEORIA, Ill. – The lead in the 10th Judicial Circuit judge’s race in Peoria County has nearly doubled, but the margins are still razor-thin.
After the first batch of mail-in ballots were processed Thursday by the Election Commission, Democrat John Spears has a 13 vote lead over Republican Frank Ierulli. The margin after Election Night was only seven votes.
Spears received 417 additional votes after Thursday’s mail-in vote count, bringing his total to 37,809. Ierulli added 411 votes for a total of 37,796.
Election Commission Executive Director Elizabeth Gannon says Thursday’s count may be the largest amount counted in the next couple weeks. She says mail-in ballots received are processed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Gannon says November 19th is the last day mail-in ballots will be accepted, processed, and counted.
