PEORIA, Ill. – Sentencing for a man who pleaded guilty in September to the shooting death of a woman in Dunlap last year has been delayed.
Walter Artis was to be sentenced Thursday after his plea in connection to the death of 23-year-old Alexis Boland.
25 News reports a request from Artis’ attorney’s for a continuance of the trial was granted by Judge Kate Gorman.
Boland suffered multiple gunshot wounds in an apartment on April 14th last year, and was declared brain dead two days later.
His defense attorney argued that he believed the motion to withdraw the guilty plea would be discussed before sentencing, and that the family did not have enough time to send in character letters.
Charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery charges were dropped in exchange for Artis’ guilty plea.
Court records showed Artis and Boland had children together.
The sentencing was rescheduled to November 20th.
