WASHINGTON, Ill. – Washington Community High School is mourning the passing of who the district calls a “true champion for students and teachers.”
WCHS board member Gloria McNett passed away on November 8th at the age of 92.
In a Facebook post, the district says McNett taught and tutored for more than 45 years in several area schools, from elementary to college.
She began her teaching career at Lincoln Grade School in Washington, and worked at both Eureka College and Illinois Central College. McNett was born in Knox County, then graduated from Lacon Community High School before earning degrees at Eureka College and Bradley University.
The district says McNett served on the various Washington school boards for 31 years, 21 of those on the high school board. The district continues to say she played a role in several building additions and projects to upgrade the high school campus.
Services for McNett will take place Saturday, November 16th, the day she would have turned 93, at Mason-White Funeral Home.
