PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria mayoral race is now down to three candidates.
25 News reports 23-year-old Jake Ryan has pulled out of the race amid allegations of forged signatures on his election petition.
That leaves Mayor Rita Ali, and Councilmen Chuck Grayeb and John Kelly as the remaining candidates.
A formal objection to Ryan’s petition was raised by an attorney for Brian Barkley on November 4th, reading that nominating papers “demonstrate a pattern of fraud” and that “multiple signatures are forgeries.”
The objection also contains 11 signed affidavits from Peoria residents stating they did not sign the petition and is not their handwriting.
Peoria County Election Commission board chair Jim Manning says Ryan voluntarily withdrew from the race on November 8th after not having enough signatures.
Campaign social media accounts for Ryan, as well as a website, have been taken down.
