PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man has been ordered to remain in custody after his arrest for allegedly killing his girlfriend’s kitten.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 34-year-old Paul Cox was arrested this past weekend on a charge of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. A detention hearing for Cox was held Monday, where he was ordered to be detained until trial.
Prosecutors say police responded in the early morning hours of October 29th on reports of trouble with a male at the Lexington Hills Apartment Complex.
Cox’s girlfriend told police that she informed him of not wanting to be in a relationship with him further after dropping her off at her apartment.
That’s when Cox allegedly got upset, entered her apartment, and grabbed the kitten by the neck. He allegedly then told the girlfriend’s younger sister that he was going to kill the kitten.
The kitten was found dead outside the apartment by police.
The state’s attorney’s office says an investigation is ongoing.
