WEST PEORIA, Ill. – Firefighters from several communities battled a fire in West Peoria Sunday that began in a garage and spread to a second garage and a vacant home.
West Peoria First Assistant Fire Chief Jim Stecher said an unattached garage was fully engulfed in fire in the 2200 block of W. Kellogg Avenue, and wind caused flames spread to another garage and a vacant home in the 500 block of N. Waverly Avenue.
Stecher told 25 News, the fire was only a block from the fire station. His volunteer firefighters had just finished training and were at the station when a passerby reported the fire about 11:20 a.m.
No injuries were reported, and Stecher said the cause of the fire had not been determined. Both garages were a total loss, and the vacant home had about $60,000 damage.
Peoria, Limestone Township and Logan-Trovoli firefighters, as well as crews from Peoria Heights and Bartonville all provided mutual aid.
