PEORIA Ill. – A nation-wide movie theater chain announces record-breaking attendance numbers, over the Thanksgiving Holiday period.
Representatives of AMC Theatres tell us they’ve seen several company records being broken in recent weeks, including what they are calling their “biggest Friday night of all-time”, on November 29th, where they saw the second-highest total revenue day, in the movie theater chain’s 104-year history.
Representatives also claim, from Wednesday, November 27th — through Black Friday — they saw more movie-goers than ever before, in that time period, with more than 8.8 million tickets sold and seats filled.
AMC credits the opening weekend of Disney’s “Moana 2” — and strong holdovers from films like “Wicked” and “Gladiator 2” — for the record-breaking numbers.
AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron commented:
“This 5-day Thanksgiving period in 2024 was one for the ages. At AMC theatres in the United States and abroad, AMC welcomed more than 8 million moviegoers from Wednesday through Sunday. In the U.S., AMC shattered record after record for attendance, admissions revenue, food & beverage revenue and total revenue. Apparently, movie fans decided in droves that Thanksgiving dinner is made all the better when accompanied by some delicious AMC popcorn, an ice-cold Coca-Cola, and a great film to watch as showcased on AMC’s huge silver screens.”
