PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics were called to 7116 N. Kickapoo-Edwards Road for a possible hazardous material release Tuesday afternoon.
Peoria crews responded to a mutual aid call from the Brimfield Fire Protection District at approximately 2:45 p.m. Brimfield firefighters were first to respond to a service station for an unknown white powdery substance found in the back of the building.
Illinois State Police was called in to investigate, then requested the Peoria Fire Haz-Mat team conduct a test on the unknown substance.
It was determined the source of the substance isolated to an area trucking company.
The substance was released for many miles on Interstate 74 westbound, ending at the service station.
It was determined that the substance was not hazardous.
Illinois State Police are still investigating.
