PEORIA, Ill. – A portion of a Peoria hospital was damaged after a fire was reportedly intentionally set near it Saturday morning.
Peoria Fire says crews responded to Carle Health Methodist Hospital at around 6:00 A.M. An individual was reportedly found hovering over the fire with a bed sheet, paper, and sticks.
The fire was able to penetrate an exterior wall surface on Glen Oak Avenue near the elevators and vestibule, but fire crews put the flames out quickly.
Peoria Fire says the fire extended about seven feet up the inside of the wall.
Smoke and water in the interior of the building caused additional damage. Damage estimates are around $10,000.
Peoria Fire says the hospital was able to stay open.
