GALESBURG, Ill. — The man accused of murdering a Central Illinois deputy during a high speech police chase weeks ago now faces an indictment for allegedly trying to shoot another law enforcement officer that day.
According to a release from Knox County authorities, a new indictment for Attempted Murder has been brought down against Daylon Richardson.
Richardson is the man who led police on a car chase April 29th outside of Galesburg.
The chase continued north and toward the Henry County line, where Richardson later hit and killed Knox County Deputy Nick Weist as he was laying out spike strips on the roadway.
A Knox County grand jury was presented evidence that Richardson shot at a pursuing Galesburg Police officer before he hit Deputy Weist.
Authorities in Henry County will prosecute the murder case against Richardson, reportedly then followed by Knox County, which will subsequently handle the attempted murder case.
The Knox County States Attorney says he is working closely with his counter-part in Henry County, along with Illinois State Police and local law enforcement.
