WASHINGTON, Ill. – A 34-year-old Washington man died after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night.
Washington Police and Fire responded to the incident just before 7:15 P.M. in the area of Peoria and Willa Lane.
Police say two people were attempting to cross Peoria Street from the south side of the roadway, about 400 feet from a crosswalk at Eagle Street.
One person, identified as Patrick Merchant, was struck by an eastbound car, and taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Merchant was pronounced dead just after 9:00 P.M.
He says Merchant suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries as a result of being hit by a vehicle that were inconsistent with life.
The crash remains under investigation.

The victim was taken to OSF Saint Francis and later pronounced dead.
Police say the driver of the vehicle was a juvenile, who stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
Washington Police say the name of the victim is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
The crash is under investigation.
