PEORIA, Ill. – A visit to the Peoria Riverfront Museum is now a friendly competition.
Museum leaders on Monday announced the Achievement Passport program. It allows visitors to earn points as they visit and experience the different exhibits at the museum.
Obtaining a passport is free for anyone. People can earn points by visiting the museum, and participating in programs, exhibitions, and even tours.
Director of Education and Engagement Nichelle O’Saurus says the program turns each visit into a game.
“We know from research that when learning is presented as a game, motivation increases,” O’Saurus said. “And learning intensifies, academic achievement improves, and a little bit of friendly competition adds a sense of community.”
O’Saurus says people can earn ten points per activity they participate in, with higher points possible for bigger events and shows. Small prizes will be available each day, and the top three point earners from each month can earn an additional prize.
Those who visit on the museum’s all-access days can earn enamel pins. At the end of the year, the top 10% of point earners will be entered into a drawing to win a trip to New York City to visit museums in the Big Apple.
“The American Museum of Natural History, our partner here with whom we built a bridge. The Museum of Modern Art. The 9/11 Museum. The great museums with whom we’re collaborated like the Whitney Museum, or others,” said John Morris, museum President and CEO.
The program is supported by the Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All.
