PEORIA, Ill. – A business with roots in Peoria is marking a century by looking back to its past.
Caterpillar leaders and employees cut the ribbon Thursday morning on new exhibits at the downtown Peoria Visitor’s Center.
2025 marks 100 years of Caterpillar, after Benjamin Holt and C.L. Best merged their companies to form the Caterpillar Tractor Company in 1925. The actual anniversary will occur on April 15th.
Cat’s archivist Lee Fosburgh says a lot of the archives will come from its storage facility in Mossville.
“What we have are over 200 digital artifacts that are made available through four different touch screen monitors,” Fosburgh said. “They touch on things like Caterpillar milestones, the great projects our machines have worked on, our people and innovation.”
The visitor’s center will have different exhibits throughout the year that focus on the past and look to the future.
