PEORIA, Ill. – A detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon for the suspect in Peoria’s first homicide of 2025.
25 News reports 45-year-old Derrick Hall has not been charged with the crime yet, but more charges could come later on.
Hall is currently facing 30 years in prison on a count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender.
Hall is accused in the fatal shooting death of 37-year-old Latrista Warfield at The Grove Apartments on Sunday morning at 1417 W. Candlelight Court.
Court records indicate police were called to the apartments, finding multiple shell casings Warfield dead in a hallway with multiple gunshot wounds. Police say there was a significant amount of blood in the hallway, as well as drag marks between apartments #202 and #204.
Police entered apartment #204 after obtaining a search warrant, finding more shell casings and more blood in the bathroom.
Apartment #204 is reportedly rented by another man who was letting two other men stay there, but prosecutors did not clarify who the two men were, only that Hall did not rent the apartment.
Hall reportedly called 911 at around 5:00 P.M. Sunday to confess and turn himself in with the gun he used.
He was arrested at his aunt’s house and told police the weapon was hidden inside a grill on the porch of the house.
