PEORIA, Ill. – The man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend Sunday at a Peoria apartment complex has now been charged with First Degree Murder.
A judge also ruled Wednesday that 45-year-old Derreck Hall must remain in jail until his trial, after the state’s petition to detain him was granted.
He was previously charged with one court of unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender.
Hall is accused of shooting 37-year-old Latrista Warfield at The Grove Apartment Compelx in North Peoria on Sunday.
Peoria Police responded, finding Warfield lying in a pool of blood in a hallway on the second floor of the complex on the 1400-block of W. Candlelight Court.
Prosecutors say Warfield was shot six times and pronounced dead at the scene.
Hall turned himself into police Sunday night, and told police he had the gun used in the shooting. Police recovered the gun and matched shell casings from the scene to it.
Hall is due in court for an arraignment hearing on February 20th.
