PEORIA, Ill. – Music teachers and students from around the state return to Peoria this week.
Illinois Music Education Association’s Darcy Nendza says thousands of participants will be in area restaurants, hotels, and on the streets downtown starting Wednesday.
“We have students, parents, and adult attendees in hotels from Morton through all the way to Grand Prairie, and beyond. So, we are really thrilled to bring 12,000 of our best friends to Peoria this week,” Nendza says.
The Illinois Music Education Association has held their annual convention in Peoria for over three decades. It is easily one of the biggest events to come to the River City each year, having a huge economic impact on not only Peoria, but surrounding communities.
The convention gets underway on Wednesday, but organizers are already in town preparing for thousands of music professionals and students alike.
Nendza says over 150 clinics and concerts are on the schedule this week.
“Our music educators come down to learn tips and tricks on being better at their craft. And, then on Saturday afternoon, we culminate with our All-State and Honors concerts…these are 1,700 of the best high school musicians in the state of Illinois, and they perform in arena at the Civic Center for friends, family, and their educators,” Nendza says.
Tickets for Saturday’s IMEA concerts are available through the Civic Center’s Toyota Box Office.
