PEORIA, Ill. โ Peoria firefighters responded to reports of a car on fire in a garage, attached to an apartment building Tuesday afternoon.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Waldron says crews arrived to W. Shermoor around 4:30 p.m., finding a car fully engulfed inside a garage, with heavy smoke coming from the roof eaves and vents.
The car fire was put out quickly, and firefighters began checking for extension into the garage attic and apartment building, Waldron says.
Fire was found in the attic, but crews were able to put it out before it reached the apartments.
None of the residents were inside the complex when the fire broke out.
A fire investigator determined the cause of the fire was unintentional.
No firefighter injuries were reported at the scene, and none of the residents were displaced.
Total damages to the car and the garage were estimated at $30,000.
