PEORIA Ill. – An Illinois appeals court has ruled a Peoria man serving life in prison for sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint in 2020 – must be sentenced again.
According to 25News – 33 year-old Marquiese Talley’s attorney incorrectly agreed with prosecutors that a life sentence was the only possible punishment.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office described Talley as a “serial rapist” and “every woman’s nightmare.”
Authorities said Talley held a gun to the woman’s head and sexually assaulted her during the early morning hours of July 9, 2020.
Two weeks earlier, prosecutors said Talley raped and robbed another woman he did not know in a case with “nearly identical facts.”
However, justices found Talley did not qualify for a life sentence because he had not been convicted in court of the first offense – when he committed the second crime.
