PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were called to N. Timber Circle early Wednesday afternoon for a garage fire.
Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Calhoun says when they arrived just before 12:20 p.m., crews saw heavy smoke coming from a 2.5-stall detached garage. Two vehicles inside were engulfed in flames.
An individual inside the garage evacuated before firefighters arrived. They were treated at the scene for minor injuries, before being taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
An investigator determined the fire was accidental, caused by a flammable liquid igniting from an open flame heat source while the individual was working inside the garage.
One firefighter was also injured at the scene.
Damage is estimated at $80,000.
