PEORIA, Ill. – A Marquette Heights man will spend at least four years in prison after he was found with a stolen weapon and explosives during a traffic stop last year.
25 News reports 35-year-old Dalton Lee Mattus was sentenced to 57 months in prison by a federal judge, followed by three years of supervised release.
Mattus was found with a stolen handgun and two homemade destructive devices inside a padlocked bag during a traffic stop on May 17th in Pekin.
Mattus was a passenger in the vehicle that was stopped.
A search of his apartment then turned up three additional explosive devices, live firearm ammo, and additional materials to build destructive devices.
Mattus had reportedly told police that he did not intend to hurt anyone, but made the explosives as protection from “undocumented immigrants and a corrupt government.”
