PEORIA, Ill. – A lawsuit has been filed in Peoria County against the estate of WTVP’s former CEO and former finance director.
WTVP’s insurance company, Cincinnati Insurance, is suing the estate of the late Lesley Matuszak and former finance director Linda McLaughlin.
25 News reports the insurance company is seeking to recover money paid out as part of a claim that had specific coverage for employee theft, fraud, and embezzlement.
Cincinnati Insurance is seeking $250,000, plus attorney’s fees and costs.
The lawsuit also accuses Matuszak and McLaughlin of conspiring together to defraud WTVP out of the money.
Matuszak took her own life in September of 2023 inside her home, and several investigations after revealed that Matuszak falsely certified the accuracy of financial reports, and used grant money for luxury items for herself.
A case management conference between both sides is scheduled for August.
