PEORIA, Ill. — A string of attempted burglaries early Wednesday morning hit Peoria’s northside.
The Peoria Police Department reported incidents in the 1600 block of W. Winnebago, the 1500 block of W. Sunnyview, the 1500 block of W. Shenandoah, and the 6100 block of W. Knoll Aire.
PPD said as of Wednesday afternoon it didn’t have any suspects, but the burglaries all checked the same boxes.
Each home was occupied by senior citizens, each attempt began with a kicked-in door, nothing was taken from any of the homes, and all occurred in the overnight to early morning hours.
PPD Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said the areas where the events took place will be more heavily-monitored in the coming days.
“The department, patrol, and detective units are all aware of these incidents, and there will be increased police presence,” she said.
She said situations like this also increase the need for neighborhood watches, formal or informal.
“Look out for one another,” she said.
“People are always up and about and moving throughout the day and the night, and if you see something that looks suspicious, do not hesitate to call the police.”
Dotson said all the incidents ended when the homes’ occupants woke up and yelled, which caused the intruders to flee.
