PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police say shootings are down in the city compared to this time last year.
In a report released on Thursday, the department says there’s been a 30% drop in shooting incidents through April of this year, compared to the same timeframe last year. There were 14 incidents this year through April, compared to 20 last year.
Peoria Police says there’s also been a 32% drop in shooting victims, from 22 through April of last year to 15 this year.
Peoria Police says there’s only been two homicides in the city through April, compared to four this time last year, a 50% drop.
In other numbers released by the department, there were 299 ShotSpotter Alerts and 1099 rounds fired through April, compared to 393 and 1654, respectively, at this time last year.
The number of weapons recovered by police are holding steady. Peoria Police recovered 122 weapons, six more than this time last year. Officers also recovered 22 stolen weapons, the same number as last year through April.
