PEORIA, Ill. – A 14-year-old was arrested on weapons charges during graduation ceremonies Saturday at the Peoria Civic Center.
Peoria Police say while assisting with crowds just before 2:45 P.M., officers spotted a male juvenile exiting the line upon seeing the metal detectors and approach a group of males.
A second group of males with masks on approached the first group, with police stopping the second group, but one of the males fled on foot.
The 14-year-old reportedly ran into a vehicle before he was taken into custody. Police reportedly found a handgun inside the vehicle.
The teenager was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm, No FOID, Possession of a Handgun Under 21, and Resisting Police. He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
