PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Peoria County officials are warning about potential exposure to rabies after a rabid bat was found.
A statement from the county does not state where and when the rabid bat was found.
PCAPS Director Becky Spencer says anyone that has been exposed to bats should immediately report it to animal protection services and the Peoria City/County Health Department.
The county says rabies can affect the central nervous system of humans and other mammals. It is usually transferred through the bite of a rabid animal, such as bats, skunks, or raccoons.
