SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – As if the onslaught of mailers and TV and radio commercials weren’t enough indication for you, Tuesday is Primary Election Day in Illinois.
There are contested races where both Democrats and Republicans alike can whittle down the candidates ahead of the November election — both on state and federal levels.
If you’re not registered to vote, don’t worry.
“If you are not registered to vote, you can register and vote at the same time at your polling place,” said Matt Dietrich, spokesperson, Illinois State Board of Elections. “Just be sure if you have to register, bring your two pieces of I.D. One has to show your place of residence.”
You can find out more info on whether or not you’re registered, or where your polling place is, by CLICKING HERE.
Forms of identification you can use?
“That would be, ideally, a bank statement or a utility bill, lease, government mailing to your new home, also something to show your identity. That would be, typically, a drivers license.”
Dietrich says mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Election Day or dropped off in person at a collection box.
So far, combining early voting and vote-by-mail, state numbers show 393,000 potential voters those ways — about 56,000 less than four years ago.
