PEORIA, Ill. — Incumbent Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker was declared the winner of the Democratic gubernatorial primary race roughly one hour after vote counting began across the state.
It is an unsurprising result, despite opposition in the primary from unlikely challenger, Chicago area healthcare worker Beverly Miles.
With barely one quarter of the total precincts in the state reporting, Pritzker’s share of the votes totals more than 93% of all ballots counted so far. Miles had garnered a little over 14,000 votes by the time Pritzker was declared the winner, with well over 133,000 votes in his favor at that time as well.
This ensures Pritzker will be the man to beat for whomever rises to the top in the large Republican field of potential gubernatorial contenders.
Pritzker is seeking his second term in office as Governor.
