PEORIA, Ill. – Primary election races weren’t the only things on many local ballots across the area Tuesday. Measures that affect taxes were, too, and the results were arguably mixed.
In Chillicothe, voters were asked to raise the property tax levy rate for the Public Library District from 0.15%, to 0.25%. That was rejected by about a two-to-one margin.
In Tazewell County, voters approved the Cincinnati Fire Protection District issuing $1.2 million in fire protection bonds, by about a three-to-one margin. But, voters in Creve Coueur rejected by 100 votes a proposition for an aggregate tax extension for the Park District.
And, in Woodford County, with very few votes, voters okayed a special property tax levy for the Dana Fire Protection District, that will provide ambulance service.
