PEORIA, Ill. — It’s snowy start to the last day of October.
Peoria Assistant Public Works Director Sie Maroon said Thursday’s snowfall was the first time Peoria has seen snow on Halloween in over a century.
Maroon said thanks to a mix of rain and snow, Peoria’s streets mostly wet and were in generally good condition Thursday morning.
“But, as you get out further to the north and northwest, we’re experiencing a lot of slush buildup on those roads. We’re actually plowing in those areas. As you get to the downtown area, roads are mostly more wet,” Maroon said.
Maroon said precipitation is expected to change to all snow by Thursday afternoon. Residential areas will not be plowed unless there is 2 inches of snow accumulation.
“As you encounter any snow plow or salt trucks in your travels, we encourage motorists to give plenty of space and exercise patience,” Maroon said.
