PEORIA, Ill. – The newest exhibit to hit the galleries at the Peoria Riverfront Museum opens on Saturday.
It’s called “American Revolutionaries: Art and Disruption” — 166 different pieces of art that’s part of a new national partnership fronted by Arkansas-based Art Bridges.
“‘American Revolutionaries’ is a revolutionary exhibition in a number of ways. It’s an extremely diverse amount of work, spanning about 166 years,” said Bill Conger, Curator of Exhibitions and Exhibitions.
Diverse isn’t the only word Conger uses to describe the exhibition.
“What we enjoyed doing in this exhibition is pairing various time frames, various types of artists, various perspectives on America, in various ways, that appear extremely off-putting at times,” said Conger.
Art Bridges is an Arkansas-based organization started by a philanthropist who is a part of the Walton family that founded Walmart.
Conger says it may also seem unnatural at times, but when you read and examine them, there’s more in common with the works then there’s not.
“American Revolutionaries” will run until next spring.
