PEORIA, Ill. – Another service that Peoria’s FamilyCore has provided over the years is shutting down.
FamilyCore CEO Ann Landing-Ferguson says after what was termed a thorough evaluation, the organization’s Domestic and International Private Adoption programs will cease effective at the end of August.
She cites statistics that international adoptions overall have dropped 75 percent since 2014 nationally.
Domestic adoptions at the national level dropped 20 percent between 2019 and 2020.
“It is difficult to close our Private Domestic and International Adoption Programs,” said FamilyCore CEO Ann Lading-Ferguson, “but all agree that is it is the right decision for FamilyCore, our clients and the community. With other entities providing the same service with a greater volume, it no longer makes sense to offer this service through FamilyCore. State adoptions will not be impacted and FamilyCore will continue to provide those services.”
Landing-Ferguson’s statement came in a news release.
Last year, FamilyCore discontinued its after school and summer programs — citing a similar reason, that other entities are providing the same type of assistance.
