PEORIA, Ill. — There are no injuries reported in the wake of an overnight 4th of July fire in Peoria.
It happened a little after 10:30 p.m. Monday at a property near North Sheridan and West Meadows Lane. Firefighters say they responded to the scene to find a two unit detached garage almost completely engulfed in flame.
Flames also reportedly spread to another nearby garage unit.
In a release issued early Tuesday, Peoria fire officials say at one point a large explosion hindered firefighting efforts.
However, even at that point it took crews only about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
Seven people were inside the nearby home at the time of the fire and all were able to return home safely, according to the Peoria Fire Department.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
