PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – On Wednesday, Peoria County detectives arrested two men, one of whom they said sexually assaulted a minor.
Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins said Sergio Delgado Rodriguez was arrested for criminal sexual assault after executing a search warrant in Edwards.
According to 25 News, Rodriguez had been talking with a 16-year-old girl on Snapchat. He was also allegedly lying about his age to the girl and convinced her to meet with him several times.
In a separate incident, deputies also worked with the Illinois Department of Corrections to arrest David Jones, a registered sex offender. He had been documented spending a lot of time in Hollis Park near a school.
Sheriff Watkins warned parents to be aware of their children’s social media activity. He added that people can be very convincing while talking online and may even get kids to lie about who they’re talking with.
