PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Public Works says snowfall tapered off around 1 a.m. Friday, leaving 2-3 inches of accumulation in areas throughout the city. Primary routes remain the focus, but crews are now moving into the residential areas to clear and treat those streets.
Public Works’ Nick McMillion says many roads in Peoria remain partially snow-covered and slick. While conditions are drivable, motorists should plan for a slower commute to work Friday morning.
Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, reduce speed, and increase following distance. McMillion suggests using additional caution when entering and leaving neighborhoods and to remain alert to changing road conditions from block to block.
Peoria’s roads are expected to steadily improve through the morning and into Friday afternoon. Crews will continue working in 12-hour, around-the-clock operations, concentrating on residential routes for most of the day.
Snowfighters will then make a quick turnaround to prepare for another winter weather event expected on Saturday.
Although no City-wide parking ban is currently in effect, residents are encouraged to move their vehicles off the street, if possible. This helps crews more effectively clear the residential streets.
Public Works also reminds residents to be good neighbors by clearing snow from public sidewalks around their homes. Keeping sidewalks accessible ensures safer travel for everyone.
