PEORIA, Ill. – A major road project for Bellevue’s portion of Harmon Highway is expected to start in a few weeks.
IDOT announced that Illinois Route 116 will close to all traffic on January 2nd for the removal and replacement of the bridge over Kickapoo Creek, Kickapoo Creek Road, and the railroads.
The more than $23 million project will replace the old bridge with a four-span steel girder structure, as well as rebuilding the approaches, improving Kickapoo Creek Road under the bridge, and new guardrails.
The current bridge was built in 1935, with IDOT saying staged construction is not feasible because of a main truss underneath the driving surface.
The project is expected to be done by the end of 2026.
