PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. (25 News) – A well-known spot in Peoria Heights that’s housed everything from family restaurants to a sports bar, and most recently several Mexican restaurants, is once again up for sale, raising some questions.
Mayor Matthew Wigginton tells 25 News that the site has potential despite the turnover of businesses. He said the issue is not the location, but finding an appropriate business for the space.
“The Penguin Tap, I love that you’re going back in history. That was a great family-oriented business. I think we’re looking for something like that as well, something that captures maybe some missing element that we have in the Heights,” Wigginton said.
The Peoria Heights mayor said village officials are open to another restaurant, retail, or a grocery concept for the space. Wigginton said he believes the building at 4319 N. Prospect Road won’t stay vacant long, pointing to the property’s history as evidence of its potential for a new business.
