PEORIA, Ill. – State Senator and Gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey wasn’t the only candidate in November’s election at a Peoria event Tuesday.
Travis Weaver was there, too, after defeating Pekin Mayor Mark Luft in the Republican primary for Luft’s 93rd District Illinois House seat.
“We have had too long in Illinois where we elect leaders who don’t have a track record of getting things done,” said Weaver. “Darren had a problem with COVID; he sued the Governor. Darren had a problem with education; he started a school (Full Armor Christian Academy in Louisville, IL). Darren has a problem with Illinois; he’s running for Governor. This is a guy who executes and does what he says he’s going to do.”
Weaver is the son of businessman and former State Senator Chuck Weaver, and is unopposed in November, but Democrats could still slate a candidate if they so choose.
Desi Anderson, a Bloomington-Normal-area businesswoman who’s also with with non-profits was also unopposed in the June primary. Now, she’ll face incumbent Democrat State Senator Dave Koehler in November.
“I think we’re just, like, everyday people that just got fed up,” said Anderson. “A lot of you, as we’re knocking on doors, are just fed up at the state of the economy, the state of affairs. Election integrity is a huge one. We decided just to throw our hat. We’re in this.”
Anderson says she sees a “red wave” coming in November, despite voters at least in Chicago voting largely Democratic.
Roughly three-dozen supporters of Bailey were at Tuesday’s event at Lariat Steakhouse. He also campaigned in Bartonville Tuesday morning, and with the Tazewell County Republican Women Monday night.
