PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – A hit-and-run that killed a man in Peoria last year will end with prison time for a driver from Chicago.
According to 25 News, 37-year-old Demoriele Sims pleaded guilty on Tuesday to failing to report an accident that involved a death in connection with a January 2025 crash that killed a pedestrian, 38-year-old Quentin Shinkle.
On January 13, 2025, Sims struck and killed Shinkle on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and then fled the scene. Shinkle was found in the middle of the road. He died five days later.
Sims was facing up to 15 years in prison for the offense, but following his guilty plea, he now faces up to five years.
His sentencing is scheduled for March 25.
