PEORIA, Ill. — The updates to the vintage Peoria Public Schools Stadium sign will be finished in December.
David Meyers, Director of Buildings and Grounds, said the new base of the sign has been attached.
“It’s a type of foam-composite base. And it looks real. I’m sure it’s going to be pretty durable,” Meyers said.
An electronic element will also be added to the sides original sign, in the shape of a V.
Meyers said that the sign will be wireless.
“The intent is [for] vendors to advertise and draw revenue to help the school district,” Meyers said.
The sign upgrades, he said, have cost around $68,000.
The idea of adding a new LED scoreboard has also been in renovation talks for the field.
“This is a good starting point. We’ve talked about a new roof on the stadium. Now we have the marquee sign,” Meyers said.
Other projects include a new track and turf field that could cater to other sports being hosted at the stadium.
“When we start looking at that stadium, and when we start going forward, we want to capture all of that,” Meyers said.
