PEORIA, Ill. – The cold temperatures will cause a three-day weekend at Peoria Public Schools.
The district announced Thursday that the forecasted cold and severe wind chills for Friday will close schools for the day, but district offices will remain open.
The district will make up the day on May 26th.
Temperatures are expected to fall to -5, with wind chills reaching as low as -30.
In a statement, Superintendent Doctor Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat says more than 4600 of its students either walk to school or wait outside for transportation to school, and that closing schools for the day is the safest choice for the community.
